Several mushers told us the same thing: on a computer, MushMate was "too busy", with "too many hidden options". We measured every page at desktop size. The finding was clear: every page showed everything it knew, and everyday actions were tucked away in menus.
This website update puts things back in order.
What changes for you
The dashboard keeps six blocks at the top. Today's session, the weather right below, recent runs and the dogs that need something; on the right, "Handle now" and today's team. Care, breeding, season context and tasks are still there, further down. A kennel where everything is fine reads one short sentence instead of a 21-row table.
The Kennel shows all its operations. No more "More" menu: a strip in three groups, every button with its icon and its word. Log: outing, weigh-in, race, activity, vet care, behavioural incident. Organise: teams, rations, export. Add: a dog, or an import. "Vet care" asks which dog, then opens its Health tab with the form ready. And "Edit dog" sits under every name.
The Plan opens on the current week. This week's sessions come first, then "Why this plan?", then the season. Warnings no longer pile up: a single block, "3 things to check", one line per item with its button always visible. And the plan now opens on today's week: it could open on another one.
Your words, not the model's. "Body condition" instead of BCS, "accumulated fatigue" and "base fitness" instead of TSB and CTL, "very easy, moderate, hard" instead of Z1, Z2, Z3. The acronyms are still there under "Under the hood", for anyone who wants them. These are the mobile app's words: both now say the same thing.
More compact, more sober. With a mouse, buttons and selectors are slimmer, numbers lighter, and the selected option is no longer a big orange block. On a touch screen nothing shrinks: targets keep their finger size.
A calendar day says what happened. In Stats, clicking a day with two outings no longer shows "Outing" and "Team RUN" with nothing else: each line gives the team, terrain, number of dogs, distance, duration and speed — and the time, when the outing has a GPS trace.
Nothing hidden in the left sidebar. Times, Gear, "Find an expert" and "My expert profile" are visible from the start. You can still collapse that group.
The home page shows the app. Three screenshots, one sentence each, and links to the mobile app: Google Play for Android, TestFlight (beta) for iPhone. The "Start — 30 days" button now opens sign-up directly.
What these changes show to no one
Nothing new is shared. The home page screenshots come from a demo kennel, never from yours. What you see on your dashboard, your teammates could already see.
What this update does not do
No feature was removed: what left the top of a page is further down, or on its own page. The dashboard cannot be customised: the order is the same for everyone. The public site still shows no price. And on iPhone, the app is still a TestFlight beta, not yet on the App Store.
Choices made against the obvious
An icon with its word, never alone. An icon-only strip would have been more compact, but you have to hover each icon to learn what it does: exactly the hidden option you complained about.
No "expert mode". Hiding details behind a switch would have been one more hidden option. Explanations are folded away; actions, never.
"Body condition" rather than "BCS". We chose "BCS" in September. We are going back on it so that web and mobile speak the same language. The acronym is still written once, in the assessment title, to make the link with your vet.
Opening the "More" menu rather than emptying it. Without audience measurement (MushMate does none), removing a page by guesswork could have removed the one you use.
The new-plan proposal stays unfolded. It is the only warning that is not folded: its weeks and buttons are the decision itself.
