Linking Strava to MushMate was a one-way trip. You could connect an account; you could neither see which one nor disconnect it. For a musher with two Strava accounts — one personal, one for runs with the dogs — that was a real problem: the screen said "Connected" without ever saying connected to what.

Three changes, on desktop and on the phone alike.

The linked account is named

Settings → Connected apps now shows the name of the Strava account: "Linked account: First Last (@handle)". The same line appears on the phone's import screen.

This cost nothing to retrieve: Strava was already sending it to us at connection time, and we were throwing it away. We make no extra request for it — deliberately, because Strava's import quota is limited and no display should ever spend it.

A "Disconnect this account" button

It does two things: it removes the link inside MushMate, and it asks Strava to revoke MushMate's access to your account. You can then link the other account straight away.

Your already-imported sessions stay. Disconnecting Strava deletes no run, no distance, no dog assignment. What was imported is yours and no longer depends on the connection.

The button is offered when access is marked "revoked" too — which is in fact where it helps most, since it was that dead connection which until now prevented linking another one.

A consent screen when reconnecting

Previously, pressing "Reconnect" while a Strava account was open in your browser re-linked that account, with no screen and no confirmation. Strava now shows its consent screen every time.

What this does not do

Three limits, and none of them is a "not yet":

Strava offers no account picker. The consent screen appears, but it does not ask you which account to use — it uses the one open in your browser. To switch accounts, sign out of Strava in your browser before pressing "Reconnect". We cannot work around this: it is Strava's decision, not ours. That is exactly why we show the linked account's name — it is that display, not the consent screen, that tells you where you stand.

The name is frozen at connection time. If you rename yourself on Strava, MushMate will keep showing the old name until you reconnect. The point is to tell two accounts apart, not to track a legal identity.

A connection made before this update shows only a number. We cannot recover the name of an already-linked account after the fact — it would take one Strava request per kennel. The name will appear the next time you reconnect.

One decision taken against the obvious

What should happen if MushMate removes the link but Strava, unavailable at that moment, does not confirm the revocation?

The obvious answer is: cancel, and change nothing until Strava replies. We chose the opposite. The disconnection happens anyway — and the message tells you exactly what did not complete: "Disconnected here. The revocation at Strava did not complete — remove MushMate's access from strava.com to be certain."

The reasoning: a Strava outage must not lock you inside a connection you want out of. But we will never say plain "disconnected" when that is only half true. You would rather read one slightly long sentence than a confirmation that lies.

One special case follows the same logic: if the same Strava account is linked to another kennel, we remove the link from this kennel without revoking anything at Strava — because a revocation would cut the other kennel too, and it asked for nothing. The message says so.
