The training plan lowers the volume of a sled team that has neither a quad nor a trotting machine: without them, dryland preparation is harder to carry out. But the same cut also applied to canicross, bikejoring, scooter and skijoring — sports where neither a quad nor a trotting machine plays any part. You lost about 30% of your volume for gear you have no use for. Not any more.
What changes for you
- Your plan gets back your sport's volume. Measured on our reference scenarios, at the season's peak: mid-distance canicross 14 → 20 km a week, bikejoring 28 → 40, scooter 32 → 45, skijoring 53 → 60. With a veteran or a deconditioned dog the rise is smaller (the plan already spares them for other reasons).
- Declared gear no longer counts for these four sports. Declaring a quad, a kart or a trotting machine changes nothing in a canicross plan.
- The change applies the next time your plan is regenerated: when you save the objective, or with "Regenerate". A plan already written doesn't change on its own.
What it doesn't do
- Sled plans don't move. A sled team without a quad or a trotting machine keeps its cut: there, the gear really is missing. Kart and quad keep their rule: the cut only applies when nothing rolls.
- The safeguards don't change. Young-dog caps, the fatigue guardrail and the overload alert work exactly as before. On our ten scenarios for these sports, the new volumes trigger no extra alert and no extra guardrail.
- Nobody else sees anything new. Only your plan's volume changes; what kennel members and the expert following your plan see stays the same.
A decision made without waiting for the vet
We asked our vet on 10 September: "40 km a week for a canicross dog — is that reasonable?" — because that ceiling, never reached so far because of the cut, was about to be reached for the first time. The answer hasn't come yet. We chose to fix it anyway: the cut was an obvious mistake (it punished the absence of useless gear), and the model sees nothing abnormal at these volumes. If the vet says 40 km a week is too much, it's that ceiling that will move — not the cut, which had no reason to exist.
As always, you stay in charge of the plan: you can edit it by hand, and your dogs will tell you more than any number.
