During an outing, the phone shows four figures: one big, three small. Until now, the "Pocket" or "Handlebar" choice decided which ones, and none of them could be changed. Cyclists and mid-distance mushers wanted their current speed, runners their pace per kilometre. The figures can now be chosen on the phone, and the choice is remembered for your activity.
What changes
- Press and hold a figure (half a second) to open "This figure shows". Tap the one you want in its place: it replaces the old one and the sheet closes. If it was already shown elsewhere, the two swap places. Without a touch, the sheet closes by itself after 20 seconds.
- The figures on offer: speed, average speed, average pace in min/km, distance, moving time (race time in a race), total time, time of day, the gap to your ghost when you follow one, and the distance left when you follow a trail.
- At the start, every activity already has its own. Bike, scooter, kart and quad show speed as the big figure. Canicross and cani-hiking show time, distance and pace in min/km, with total time when training and the time of day in a race. Sled, kicksled, skijoring and pulka show time as the big figure, with speed as a small one in a race.
- It's remembered for that activity, separately for training and racing: your next bike outing starts with your bike figures, your next sled race with your race figures. "Restore the default figures", at the bottom of the sheet, brings back the activity's own.
- Before the start, the "How will you run this one?" step shows the four figures of the chosen activity; tap one to open the same sheet.
- Pocket or Handlebar on the way. The sheet has a "Phone" line: switch to Handlebar for a night section, then back to Pocket. In Handlebar the screen stays on and sleeps during a stage, as if you had chosen it at the start.
What others see, and what they never see
This setting never leaves your phone. It is not on your account, on the website, or with the members of your kennel or club: two phones, two settings. The recorded outing is the same whatever figures you show — distance, times and track do not move — and a shared outing does not show your screen.
What it does not do
- No pages to swipe. Four figures on a single page: with gloves on, swiping is the least reliable gesture, and the Handlebar map already acts as a second page.
- No screen editor. One big figure and three small ones, always in the same place: the content is yours to choose, the layout never moves. Changing a figure never moves a button.
- No maximum speed, because a GPS jump would become the record on screen; no elevation gain, because a phone without a barometer guesses altitude too loosely; no battery or heart rate. These are choices, not omissions.
- Not yet: the time "since the last rest" in a race, and the distance left in a planned session. They are on the roadmap, with no date.
- The capture screen you use without an account does not change.
Three choices made against the obvious
- Press and hold, not a tap. It's the gesture of Garmin, Karoo and Komoot computers. A glove brushing the screen, a wet sleeve or a quick tap while riding change nothing. Press and hold is allowed while moving: it touches neither the recording nor a button.
- The same figures in Pocket and Handlebar. The mode says where the phone is, and so what the screen costs; the figures say what you want to see. As a result, a sled in Handlebar mode now shows time as the big figure, no longer speed. Press and hold puts it back, and it's remembered.
- Pace comes from the average, not from the last point's speed. A live pace would jump with every GPS point; runners pace themselves on the average. For the same reason, a team at a standstill shows "—" rather than a pace of several hours per kilometre.
