Until now, a logbook entry never went away. A vet visit, a vaccine, a treatment, an injury, a heat, a temperature could be corrected: you could change the date, the dog, the text. But an entry that should never have existed (a vaccine logged on Kira instead of Nanook, a visit typed in to try things out, a temperature typed into the wrong litter) stayed. At best, you moved it to another dog.

Not anymore. Every entry now has “Delete”.

What changes

What others see

A deleted entry disappears for the whole kennel: from the logbook, the dashboard, the export. What it triggered stops with it. A deleted injury no longer keeps the dog resting. A deleted restricting treatment no longer keeps it off the team. A deleted vaccine no longer sends a reminder. Nobody sees that there was an entry, nor who removed it.

What it does not do

Why a real deletion

In July we had decided the opposite: “a duplicate is fixed by correcting one of the two entries”, and nothing was deleted. The idea was to keep a record of everything that happened in the logbook. It holds for a true entry, which you correct. But keeping an entry that never happened means keeping a lie: a vaccine the dog never got, an injury it never had. Hiding it would have kept that lie in the database. “Removing it with a trace” would have shown forever that there had been a mistake. The owner decided on 15 October: an entry made by mistake is really deleted.

And why the handler and the vet, not just the owner? Because they are the ones who log most often. Whoever made the mistake should be able to fix it without fetching the owner, as with a weighing.
