You enter an outing after the fact, or you import a GPX file or a Strava session. MushMate knows which dogs ran; it doesn't know where. The outing's page names them without saying where they ran, and "Correct the places" wasn't there: that button moves places you already have, and this outing had none. As a result each dog's load was computed as if they all ran in the same spot, and the outing was missing from "Positions on the line".

What changes

On the page of an outing — or a race — that has no recorded line, the owner and the handler find "Give the places": under the list of dogs for an outing entered by hand or imported from Strava, next to "Correct the team" for a GPS outing or a race. The dialog lists the team's dogs with no place ticked. For each one, you choose: lead, swing, team or wheel, depending on the team's size.

"Save the places" stays closed until every dog has its own — the screen says which: "Missing a place for: Linka, Tukka." —, then until the line is possible: a lead, a wheel dog from two dogs on, and at most two dogs per row.

On the phone, the same thing is done in the outing's review, in the same spot as "Correct the places" — which takes its place as soon as the line exists.

Once saved, the button becomes "Correct the places", the dogs' load is recomputed with their place (a wheel dog pulls more than a leader), and the outing enters "Positions on the line". On the page of a GPS outing or a race, the team is drawn; the page of a hand-entered outing or a Strava import has no team drawing — "Correct the places" shows the line there.

What others see, and what they don't

The kennel's members see the drawn team and the recomputed load, like for any outing. Nothing says who gave the places, or when.

An outing's public link says nothing more: it shows the figures and the track, never the dogs or their places.

What "Give the places" doesn't do

It only sets the start. No change on the trail, no éventail: an imported outing doesn't say at which kilometre a dog changed place, and inventing a kilometre would be worse than saying none. That isn't "not yet": that data is something only you have, and the start is all the button asks for.

It doesn't change who ran: that's "Correct the team", beforehand.

It only opens on an outing that has no line at all. As soon as a line exists — yours, or the phone's —, it's "Correct the places". A dog added afterwards to an outing that already has its line stays without a place on the website; that's another piece of work, and it is in the register.

It doesn't open on an "other activity": they have no line.

The choices that aren't obvious

No place suggested for you. MushMate could have laid down a "reasonable" line — two leads, two wheels — and let you fix it. But a guessed place enters your dogs' load as if you had chosen it, and nobody rereads it. Better eight taps than eight wrong figures.

The dogs are exactly the team's. The line names the recorded team, no more, no less. Adding or removing a dog stays the job of "Correct the team": two gestures that don't mix, so one can't undo the other.

One line per outing, and it isn't redone. If the outing already has a line — because you gave it in one tab while another was open —, the website refuses and says so. You then correct the line, you don't lay a second one: two starts at kilometre 0 can't be ordered.
