You start the clock, then you hitch, so you don't have to think about it any more. At the finish, you unhitch and feed before you tap STOP. Those minutes walk above the pause threshold: they count in the moving time, the distance and the speed. And sometimes the dog that ran is not the one the line says. Until now, all of this was corrected later, in the run's rereading, or not at all.
What changes
The end-of-run review carries two more gestures.
"Ran: 8 dogs · Sled — Correct", above the dogs. The tap reopens the start's Line screen, with its usual gestures:
- replace a dog: "it wasn't Aurora, it was Balto". Balto takes Aurora's place at the start, and at each team change along the way;
- add one, at its usual place;
- remove one, everywhere;
- change the places, or the activity.
The review's dogs are then the ones that ran.
"Trim", under the figures, when the phone saw at least a minute of dead time at either end: "4:29 before the start · 3:10 after the finish". Three cards at most:
- "Remove nothing";
- "Keep the action";
- "Remove only the hitching".
Each card shows its figures, truly recomputed on the GPS points kept. The trimmed run then has the distance, the speed, the moving time, the climb, the track and the stops of the action alone. A confirmation says what goes. While the review is open, "Remove nothing" makes the run whole again.
What others see, and what they never see
Your kennel sees the run as you corrected it: the dogs that ran, at their places, and the figures of the action.
They never see the version before. Trimming happens before the run is sent: the website and your teammates only receive the trimmed run. Nothing there says "trimmed". A line corrected before sending leaves no trace of the mistake.
What it does not do
- Nothing is removed on its own. The phone spots the dead time; you choose to remove it, even when it is obvious.
- Trimming happens in the review, before the run is sent. A run already sent is corrected on the website, where "Correct the measurements" declares the figures. A race is not trimmed: its official time is declared.
- The start can't be trimmed when the team changed along the way. The change's kilometres would all move back; the screen says so.
- Correcting the activity doesn't re-measure the run. Distance and time stay those of the activity chosen at the start — the same rule as after sending.
- A run already sent gives no place to an added dog. A dog that replaces another takes its place, even after sending; a dog added without replacing anyone joins the team, but the recorded line stays the start's. The review says so.
These are not gaps to fill: they are the limits the measurement sets.
The choices made against the obvious
- The third card removes the hitching, not the finish. Offering "only after the finish" would have been symmetrical. But the cool-down, dogs still on the line, is part of the training; hitching never is.
- Cards, not a slider. Dragging a handle along the track would have felt freer. Four minutes of walking are 2% of the width of a 14 km profile: invisible, and impossible to aim at with mittens. The phone finds the edge; you choose the card.
- The figures shown are the ones that will be written. A quick subtraction would have done for the preview. But a preview that differs from the result is exactly the screen-versus-logbook gap this product already had to close.
- The correction reopens the start's Line screen, not a form. The same gestures, the same bench, the same dogs resting or held back by their health log: you correct the way you build.
