Until now, the phone showed your former dogs — the "Former dogs" list at the bottom of the Team screen — without being able to add one: declaring a dog retired, sold or deceased meant opening the website. Not any more.
What changes for you
- Remove from the team. On the dog's page, tap "Edit", then, at the bottom of the screen, "Remove from the team…". You pick the status — retired, sold, given, rehomed or deceased —, the date, and if you like a note (the cause, the new home). Before you confirm, a sentence says what that status changes for the dog.
- The dog leaves upcoming objectives, and its pen is freed, exactly as on the website. Its sessions, logbook and past objectives stay: nothing of its history is erased.
- Reactivate. In "Former dogs", a "Reactivate" button brings it back to the team.
- Delete permanently. Right under "Remove from the team…", for a dog created by mistake: only a dog with no data yet (session, objective, care record, weigh-in…) can be deleted. Otherwise the phone tells you why, and leaves you on "Remove from the team".
- Both gestures are shown to the kennel owner only.
What others see, and what they don't
The status belongs to the kennel: after the sync, the dog moves to "Former dogs" on every member's phone and website. On the website the list also shows the departure date; on the phone only the status is shown. The note you write is displayed nowhere: it stays on the record, for reference.
What it doesn't do
- It doesn't lend a dog. A loan is not a departure: it closes when the dog comes back, and that gesture stays on the website.
- Deleting never erases a dog's history. As soon as a session, a care record or a weigh-in cites it, deletion is refused: removing archives it without losing anything. And while an entry for that dog is still waiting to be sent, the phone refuses too — deleting now would lose that entry.
- Reactivating doesn't give the objectives back. The dog returns to the team, not to the objectives it left: reassigning them is your choice, not an automatic consequence.
- Offline, nothing is sent — and the screen says so straight away instead of making you wait.
Choices made against the obvious
- Retirement is the default, not death. It's the most common and least serious way out. Confirming without touching the choice must never declare a dog dead.
- No red. Removing a dog is a normal decision in a kennel's life. Dressing it as an alert would teach you to ignore the real alerts.
- The gesture lives in "Edit", not on the dog's page. It's rarely used; the dog's page stays the everyday one. Once the dog has left, the screen and the page close: they were showing an active dog.
- Reactivating asks for no confirmation. It's undone straight away by removing the dog again.
- Delete sits under "Remove", as plain text. It's the rare gesture, for a dog created by mistake; removing is the ordinary way out, and the confirmation states the rule before you touch anything.
