Each dog's record dates its firsts in « Milestones », and the Statistics page counts the weeks kept in a row. Until now, those moments stayed inside MushMate. They can now be shared, from the place where they show.
How you share
On each line of « Milestones », and under the strip of "Consistency and care", a "Share" button. It does two things, in this order:
- it creates the card and shows it to you, exactly as it will go out;
- "Send" then opens your phone's share sheet, with the image and the link: WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, an email…
A computer has no share sheet: "Copy link" and "Download image" do the same job. They are offered on the phone too.
Once shared, the line reads "Shared". The whole team sees it and can reopen the card. The streak can be shared again, up to date, whenever you like: it is the same card, and the same link, that update.
What the person who receives it sees
- A square image, made for a WhatsApp group, a Facebook group or the Instagram feed: the dog's photo (its initial if it has none), its name, the moment, the date, the kennel's name and MushMate's address. A first podium takes the colour of its medal.
- For the streak: the number of weeks kept in a row, "rest weeks included", the strip of the latest weeks with the streak underlined, the kennel's record and the day it was shared.
- A link to a page that shows the same card, with no account needed, and that unfurls with its image when pasted into a messaging app.
What they never see
- No place: no track, no map, no starting point.
- Nothing about health: no weight, no injury, no care.
- No other dog than the one on the card, and no other moment than the one you shared.
- Nothing in search engines: the page is shared by link, it is not indexed.
What it does not do
- Recall an image already sent. "Stop sharing" cuts the link: the page no longer answers, and the preview becomes a neutral image. But an image already sent into a conversation stays there: it is an image, no longer a link.
- The story format, upright. The card is a square.
- Share from the phone app. The gesture lives on the website, which the phone opens too, with its share sheet.
- A list of all your shares. Each card is withdrawn from where it was made: on its line, or under the strip.
- Share on someone else's behalf. Only the kennel owner shares, with full access. Stopping a share still works once the kennel has gone read-only.
Three choices made against the obvious
The moment is frozen, the photo is not. The card keeps the moment as it was on the day it was shared: the tier, the place, that day's streak. The dog's name, its photo and the kennel's name, on the other hand, are read every time the card is shown. Removing a dog's photo therefore removes it from all its cards, with nothing to withdraw.
The kennel's name is on it, even if your profile is not public. A published track only shows the kennel's name when "Public profile" is on, because a track next to a name points to a place. A card shows no place, you see it before it goes out, and you are the one sending it.
Two gestures rather than one. A button that shares straight away would have been shorter. But you would not have seen what goes out. And a phone refuses to open its share sheet when it comes after a network wait within the same gesture: the first gesture prepares the card, the second sends it.
