Your inventory, by item or by dog
Gear brings together everything your kennel owns — sleds, harnesses, lines, booties, coats, rest blankets, life jackets, quads, karts, bikes, scooters, and anything else — seen from two angles, right under the title: "By item" lists every item you own; "By dog" shows a table where each row is a dog and each column is one of the five worn types (harness, booties, coat, rest blanket, life jacket), with the size recorded in each cell.
Under "By item", a "Kennel harnesses" sheet opens first — one harness per line, with the dog it's assigned to, its brand and its size, printable from the "Print harnesses" button at the top of the page. Your "In service" items follow, then your "Retired" ones: each card shows the name, brand, type, condition (New, Good, Worn, Damaged), the dog it's assigned to if any, and, for a worn item assigned to a dog whose size has been recorded, a line reading "{dog} wears: {size} ({model})". Below that, the usage in kilometers you've entered and a maintenance count that expands its history on click.
Adding or editing an item
The owner and the handler can add an item from "Add equipment": type, condition, a name that suggests itself from the brand and model until you've typed your own, a free-text brand — with the kennel's known brands suggested, never enforced, a hand-sewn harness stays recordable — the purchase date and the usage in kilometers. For a worn item (harness, booties, coat, rest blanket, life jacket), a Model field completes the brand, with the same free suggestion; the size itself isn't entered here, but on the dog's own sheet or in the "By dog" table below.
When creating an item, you can check several dogs at once: each checked dog gets its own item. When editing, an item stays assigned to a single dog at a time (or none), and you can also add its photo and change its retirement date. Two actions remove it: "Retire", which moves it straight to the "Retired" section without erasing its maintenance history, and "Delete", which erases it along with that history after an explicit confirmation.
Sizes worn, dog by dog
Under "By dog", clicking a cell opens a form with three fields (brand, model, size) — a fourth is added for booties, front or rear — to record what that dog wears for that type of item. It pre-fills with the brand and model of the item already assigned when there is one, or with the size already recorded if you're correcting it. An empty cell showing a model name in plain text means: an item is assigned, but no size has been recorded yet. The same size entry also exists, dog by dog, on the "Worn equipment" card of its own record.
Tracking maintenance
Each item's card expands its maintenance history on click: date, kind (Repair, Replacement, Inspection, Cleaning, Other), and cost when it was noted. The owner and the handler add a line with the date, the kind, and an optional cost and notes — the history then stays viewable item by item, with no limit.
Choosing a rig for an outing
A sled, quad, bike or scooter "In service" here becomes selectable when you log a GPS-less outing from Dogs: the "Gear used" section of that form offers your durable rigs in service with their total usage (the kilometers you entered here, plus those from outings already linked to it), and its empty message — "No durable rig in service. Add one under Gear to track its wear." — sends you back here as long as none is recorded. This choice stays optional and never blocks logging the session.
On mobile
The phone shows the same inventory read-only, grouped by type, but adding or editing an item stays web-only. On an item's card whose service interval (in kilometers or days) has been set, a "Maintenance due" badge appears when it's due and the "Log maintenance" action — always available, outlined otherwise — fills in; opening it asks for the kind of maintenance, the date, and an optional cost/notes, no network needed. Before starting a GPS-tracked outing, a picker offers your durable rigs with their usage when the chosen setup uses one (sled, quad, bike or scooter) — one at a time, and none of them blocks the start; for other setups (kart included), this picker doesn't appear.
