GPS tracking during an outing

Before your first outing

MushMate needs "Always Allow" location to keep recording your track with the screen off or the phone in a pocket — without it, recording stops the moment the screen locks. The prompt appears once, before your first outing or race.

On Android, also exempt the app from battery optimization (Settings › My device) so a multi-day race keeps recording without interruption.

Pocket or handlebar

Before starting, pick the layout suited to where the phone will be during the outing — this only changes the screen layout, never tracking accuracy.

The GPS indicator

An indicator stays visible while recording (active, paused, warming up, searching, imprecise, lost…) with the current accuracy in metres. See the GPS FAQ for what each state means and what to do about it.
