What you will do
Record a run with your phone: choose the activity, build the line of dogs, start, stop, then do the review. Everything stays on the phone and is sent when the network comes back.
What you need
- The app on your phone, with a kennel and dogs (see Creating your account and your kennel).
- Location set to "Always allow", asked once before your first run: without it, recording stops as soon as the screen locks. On Android, also exempt the app from battery optimisation (Settings › My device). See GPS tracking during an outing.
- A day with a plan, or without: "Free run" works either way.
Step by step
- On the launcher, tap the orange button. It is "the decision of the moment": on a session day it prepares the session ("Prepare the session", then "Start the session"); otherwise choose "Free run" or "Race", just below.
- Answer "Which activity?": ten pictograms — Canicross, Cani-hiking, Bike, Scooter, Kart, Quad, Sled, Kicksled, Skijoring, Pulka. Your last activity is circled; one tap is enough. On a session day, the plan's activity, surface and dogs are already set.
- Build the line: the activity shows at the top ("Canicross · Dryland ▾": one tap changes it), then the dogs and their places. The number of dogs is respected while you build: a dog too many stays on the bench and the screen says why.
- Tap "START". The phone records; a GPS indicator stays visible with the accuracy in metres. Before leaving, choose the Pocket or Handlebar display: it never changes the tracking accuracy.
- Tap "STOP" at the end of the run. The phone opens the review.
- Do the review: a single question for the pack — "How did the team run?" (Recovery, Easy, Sustained, Hard) —, then, if you want, a dog's pill to flag it. "Finish" saves; "Later" leaves the review in the list.
What you should see
- A run "in progress" on the launcher until it is finished, with "Resume the run" if it was interrupted — and "Kept on this phone. Nothing is lost without network."
- The run's figures in the review: distance, duration, speed, climb; the speed curve, the splits and the ghost are behind "Details".
- The run in Traces (on the website, and on the phone in the Journal tab of Activity) as soon as it syncs. See Rereading a run.
What others see
- The members of your kennel see the run, its track, its team and what you noted for each dog (the run's logbook and each dog's sheet).
- Nobody outside the kennel, as long as you don't publish the run. The review adds nothing to what is shared outside the kennel.
What it does not do
- Silence is never recorded as "all good": a dog nobody answered for, neither for the pack nor for itself, is recorded with no feeling.
- Closing a dog's sheet without confirming doesn't count: only "Done" records an answer.
- The trotteur no longer starts on GPS: the phone doesn't move there; it is logged as a session ("Log a session").
- No speeds to set by hand: there is no thresholds screen; canihiking starts with canicross's settings.
- Your old runs don't change: they keep the activity they were recorded under.
If something goes wrong
- Recording stops with the screen locked: location isn't on "Always allow", or (Android) the battery cuts the app; see the GPS FAQ.
- You forgot to start: "Log a session" (the "+ Log" button, on Today and Dogs) records a session afterwards — a session, another activity, an incident or a weighing.
- The review was closed: the run is already saved; its review waits for you in the list.
- A dog is misplaced or missing: see Rereading a run ("Correct the team", "Correct the places").
